Nouns represent a person, place, thing, or idea. In Latin, Nouns in can be either singular or plural, and have a gender of feminine, masculine, or neuter.
Latin nouns undergo declining to denote what role they play in a sentence. Declensions are patterns in which nouns, pronouns, and adjectives are inflected — which are outlined below:
Declensions
- First Declension ā-Stem (-a)
- Second Declension ŏ-Stem (-us, -um, -r)
- Third Declension (many endings)
- Third Declension ĭ-Stem
- Fourth Declension ŭ-Stem (-us)
- Fifth Declension ē-Stem (-es)

Adjectives are words that describe nouns (and pronouns). Unlike English, Latin adjectives are declined to match the nouns they modify. Therefore, Latin adjectives can be singular or plural, and can be feminine, masculine, or neuter — all depending on the number, case and gender of the noun being modified.
